Another big Airline Company launched a .mobi: Air New Zealand
The press release:Commuting to work and wanting to know which destinations are on offer
at Air New Zealand's promotional site grabaseat today, the so called last seconds? Or perhaps stuck
in a meeting and wanting to check that your flight is departing on
time? Just pull out your mobile phone and visit Air New Zealand’s .mobi
site for travel info on the go.
The airline is making this information available through airnz.mobi to people using mobiles with web browsing capability.
As part of this launch, and through a special partnership with
Vodafone, access is free for Vodafone users until the end of June 2008.
A microsite at www.airnzgomobile.co.nz is also being launched with a
promotional campaign encouraging more kiwis to experience the mobile
portal. Customers can register their mobile number at this microsite
and receive an SMS message with the airnz.mobi link to enable them to
browse to it from their phone and bookmark it for future visits.
Everyone registering at this site goes in to win one of 5 Nokia N95 8G
mobile phones.
Air New Zealand’s NZ Marketing Manager Jules Lloyd says this initiative
is part of Air New Zealand’s plans to provide content to customers
through new technology channels.
“Mobile web browsing is in its infancy in New Zealand but we have
chosen to be in at the early stages of development like this. We said
the same thing about selling via the internet just a few years ago and
now we do more than $1billion in sales annually through the online
channel.
“The .mobi site currently allows customers to check current arrival and
departure times, timetables, our special Blackboard Deals on offer,
daily grabaseat destinations, and try out a tool called ‘how far can a
go’ that looks up airfares based on the amount of money customers have
available to spend on their travel.
“Mobile web browsing is popular in Asia and if that trend were to
follow here then we would expect to be able to grow this space
significantly. Air New Zealand launched a mobile website in Japan in
August 2007 and we’re encouraged by its early success.”
